The log records all actions and messages that occur in an application. This includes application and program startups and closedowns as well as messages.
Logging is optional. It is useful for statistical purposes, but plays no part in recovery.
The log is used as shown in the following table.

Log details are written to the current Log until it is full, or until it is closed by a :REL LOG Administration command. A new log is opened at system initiation if the automatic log request option is set for the database, using the :ALR Administration command. Refer to Administration Commands for more information on :REL LOG and :ALR.
