Before you try to activate your modem through an alert policy, Unisys strongly recommends that you verify that you can dial and connect to your paging service. Many problems can be caused by the initialization string and corrected by a change to the initialization string.

Connect a terminal/communications server controller to the modem with an RJ45-to-RS232 cable with a null modem or use a modem adapter (RJ-45 to DB-25 modem adapter). See your modem manual for other specific setup requirements.
