To connect a modem with a service name of alert-modem through ATS or COM port 3, enter the following:

alert-modem    COM3/eai_serial

in the file SystemFolder\drivers\etc\services.

To connect to a managed modem with a service name of alert-modem through a Cisco 2500 Access Server on port 4, enter

alert-modem    04/eai_ats OFFSET4000

in the file SystemFolder\drivers\etc\services.

This server requires no software installation. Its operating system is maintained in flash ROM. Configurations are also maintained internally, so there is no need for an external host. These servers boot up automatically and independently when they are powered on.
