The Operations Sentinel server runs continually, monitoring incoming requests, responding to them as necessary, and maintaining the internal state of managed objects inside the server. The client application, Operations Sentinel Console, retrieves the internal states of the managed objects from the Operations Sentinel Server services. This client application runs on Operations Sentinel workstations and presents this data to operators and other users.
The Operations Sentinel server provides event handling and connection services.
Events are reported to the Operations Sentinel server in the form of Log, Alert, and Command event reports.
Connection services accept universal connection requests and act as the proxy to the terminals or system consoles for OS 2200, UNIX, and Linux systems, and for devices that support the VT100 protocol.
Operations Sentinel does not directly support connections to Windows desktop sessions. Instead, you can use various remote desktop products including Remote Desktop Connection from Microsoft and Console Manager from Unisys to operate Windows systems from an Operations Sentinel workstation.
Operations Sentinel Console receives status and messages from the Operations Sentinel server when the server receives event reports from managed systems.
Operations Sentinel agents, such as the Windows Resource Monitor and the UNIX/Linux Resource Monitor, are clients that use Operations Sentinel Server services. You can create your own clients using the Operations Sentinel Event Server API. See the Operations Sentinel Event Server Application Program Interface Programming Guide for more information.
