Installing the UNIX/Linux Resource Monitor

The ULRM is included in the misc\ULRM subfolder on the Operations Sentinel installation folder on the Operations Sentinel server and is also included in the ULRM folder on the Operations Sentinel Software ISO image. The ULRM can be installed directly from the Operations Sentinel Software ISO image to a UNIX or Linux system.

Installation of the ULRM is different on UNIX and Linux systems.

UNIX Installation

Installation is the same for all UNIX systems. Root user privileges are required to install the ULRM.

The ULRM is released as a compressed tar file and a setup script that must be distributed to each managed system. You can either

The setup script extracts the agent files for the particular version of UNIX, sets the appropriate file and directory permissions, and configures the ULRM to automatically start when the system is booted.

Linux Installation

Root user privileges are required to install the ULRM.

The Linux version of the ULRM is installed using the standard RPM package method. The RPM package is a compressed container of one or more files. Multiple RPM package files can exist on the Linux system at the same time although only one is unpackaged and installed on a system at a time.

To install the ULRM, you can either

SAIL Installation

To install updates for the ULRM RPM on SAIL, perform the following steps:

  1. Download the Operations Sentinel ISO or the /latest Operations Sentinel IC containing the required ULRM RPM.

  2. Navigate to SpoULRM folder present in Operations Sentinel ISO or Operations Sentinel IC and copy the Dorado4000 folder to any temporary or local folder.

    Note: To install any RPM for SAIL, you must stop and deactivate the OS 2200 Partition, prior to applying the update.

  3. Click Management on the SAIL Control Center web page.

  4. Click Update Packages.

  5. Click Browse and select the ulrm-xx.x-uis.xx.x86_64.rpm present in Dorado4000 folder by navigating to the temporary folder.

  6. Click Install Package .

    The time taken for the installation process to complete is approximately two minutes. A dialog box is displayed stating “Install was successful” when complete.
