Procedure: If you have modified your database

If you have modified your Operations Sentinel Trap Service database, use the following steps to update your version to include the new SNMP trap definitions. Also, use this procedure if you are unsure if any changes have been made to your Operations Sentinel Trap Service database.

All migration databases are included with the latest version of the WRM.

Note: This database migration procedure updates your Operations Sentinel Trap Service database. As a precaution, the installation of the WRM automatically creates a backup in folder C:\Program Files\Unisys\Operations Setninel\Operations Sentinel Trap Agent.

  1. Uninstall the WRM. The uninstall program renames the installed database, “SpoTrapService.mdb”, to SpoTrapService.mdbdatetime to preserve any modifications you might have made.

  2. Install the new WRM.

Note: Step 3 overwrites the database released with Operations Sentinel. As a precaution, first make a backup copy of the released database.

  3. Copy “SpoTrapService.mdbdatetime” toSpoTrapService.mdb. This ensures that the file containing your modifications is used during the remaining steps in this procedure.

  4. If the Operations Sentinel Trap Service is running, stop it using the Windows Services applet. See “Stopping the Trap Service.”

Note: The Operations Sentinel Trap Service migration databases contain only the new default SNMP trap definitions that were not present in earlier versions of the Operations Sentinel Trap Service database. Use one of these migration databases to update your current version of the Operations Sentinel Trap Service database.

  5. Use the appropriate Operations Sentinel Trap Service migration databases as follows:

    • If you are moving from levels 7.0, 7.1, or 7.2 you must repeat steps 6 through 11 six times.

      • First perform steps 6 through 11 using SpoMigration70to73.mdb.

      • Repeat steps 6 through 11 using SpoMigration73to74.mdb.

      • Repeat steps 6 through 11 a third time using SpoMigration74to80.mdb.

      • Repeat steps 6 through 11 a fourth time using SpoMigration80to81.mdb.

      • Repeat steps 6 through 11 a fifth time using SpoMigration82to90.mdb.

      • Repeat steps 6 through 11 a sixth time using SpoMigration91to100.mdb.

    • If you are moving from level 7.3, you must repeat steps 6 through 11 five times.

      • First perform steps 6 through 11 using SpoMigration73to74.mdb.

      • Repeat steps 6 through 11 using SpoMigration74to80.mdb.

      • Repeat steps 6 through 11 a third time using SpoMigration80to81.mdb.

      • Repeat steps 6 through 11 a fourth time using SpoMigration82to90.mdb.

      • Repeat steps 6 through 11 a fifth time using SpoMigration91to100.mdb.

    • If you are moving from level 7.4, repeat steps 6 through 10 four times.

      • First perform steps 6 through 11 using SpoMigration74to80.mdb.

      • Repeat steps 6 through 11 using SpoMigration80to81.mdb.

      • Repeat steps 6 through 11 a third time using SpoMigration82to90.mdb.

      • Repeat steps 6 through 11 a fourth time using SpoMigration91to100.mdb.

    • If you are moving from level 8.0, repeat steps 6 through 10 three times.

      • First perform steps 6 through 11 using SpoMigration80to81.mdb.

      • Repeat steps 6 through 11 using SpoMigration82to90.mdb.

      • Repeat steps 6 through 11 a third time using SpoMigration91to100.mdb.

    • If you are moving from level 8.1 or 8.2, repeat steps 6 through 10 twice.

      • First perform steps 6 through 11 using SpoMigration82to90.mdb.

      • Repeat steps 6 through 11 a second time using SpoMigration91to100.mdb.

    • If you are moving from level 9.x, repeat steps 6 through 10 only once using SpoMigration91to100.mdb.

Use the migration databases named “SpoMigrationxxtoyy.mdb” for this procedure and not the Operations Sentinel Trap Service database named SpoTrapService.mdb. SpoTrapService.mdb does not contain the necessary migration tools.

  6. You must have Microsoft Access 2000 or later installed. Double-click the “SpoMigrationxxtoyy.mdb” file to open the Operations Sentinel Trap Service migration database.

  7. Click Database Tools, and then click Run Macro from the taskbar of the latest version of the migration database.

    The Run Macro window appears.

  8. Verify that the macro named SPO Trap Service Database Migration appears in the window and click OK.

After the Operations Sentinel Trap Service Database Migration macro starts, a window appears warning you that your version of the Operations Sentinel trap service database must be backed up. Click OK.

The migration procedure imports your version of the Operations Sentinel trap service database for updating. A dialog box appears asking for the location of the Operations Sentinel trap service database.

  9. If you have installed the WRM in the default location, accept the path name that appears in the dialog box. If you installed the agent at another location, enter the path name in the dialog box. Click OK.

When the migration procedure completes, a completion message appears.

  10. Verify your version of the Operations Sentinel trap service database. The only modification made during this migration procedure is to the Trap Mappings table (the SNMP trap definitions) in the Operations Sentinel trap service database. Any other modifications that you made previously to the Operations Sentinel trap service database are not affected.

  11. Start the Operations Sentinel trap service using the Windows Services applet. See “Starting Trap Service.”

Errors Encountered During Migration

If you stop the migration procedure or if the procedure encounters any errors, an error message showing unsuccessful completion appears.
