Undefined SNMP Trap Entry

The trap entry with an asterisk (*) for Agent OID and 0 for Trap number indicates the undefined SNMP trap entry. This entry is used when an entry for a received trap is not explicitly defined in the database. Figure 15–4 shows this entry as defined in the Operations Sentinel Trap Service database supplied with Operations Sentinel.

The Operations Sentinel event report defined for this entry raises an alert with the severity set to “informational.” You can modify this default action that is taken (for example, send a log event report, do nothing, and so on) when you receive an undefined SNMP Trap. If you want no action to occur for an undefined SNMP trap, you should clear the value of SPO Event Report for this trap entry in the database. See Figure 15–5.
