Dynamic Creation and Deletion of Objects

Using AC and DE Event

Managed object instances can be created dynamically using AC (attribute change) event reports. Object instances can be deleted dynamically using DE (delete) event reports. These event reports can be sent using all the same mechanisms previously used for AL and LG event reports. Each managed class has a Dynamic Population property that the site can use to prevent dynamic creation and deletion of objects of that class. If an AC or DE event report attempts an illegal action, the action is not performed, and this is recorded in the Operations Sentinel log SP-OBJECTEVENTS.

Using Auto Configuration Feature

When the Operations Sentinel Windows Resource Monitor (WRM) agent or the UNIX/Linux Resource Monitor (ULRM) agent is installed, active, and properly configured on a server, the Operations Sentinel server automatically configures the system appropriately. The Operations Sentinel server, using a configurable option, configures these systems automatically as the agents connect to the server. A connection from a WRM agent updates the user’s configuration, if necessary, to include the Windows system. Similarly, a connection from a ULRM agent updates the user’s configuration, if needed, to include the UNIX/Linux system.

This feature treats agent connection events as a trigger to create an object dynamically, in this case a Windows or UNIX\Linux object. One of the following must cause a Windows or UNIX\Linux system to be created:

This feature detects the agent connection event, creates an object, and establishes a connection between the Operations Sentinel server and that object.
