Logging States

The following table summarizes the three states a log or log source can have:

Icon

State

Description

Active

Logging is currently being performed.

Note: For external application log sources, active means at least one message from that application was logged sincethe Operations Sentinel Server services were started.

Inactive

Logging is not being performed for one of these reasons:

  • The Enabled property value is False.

  • For external application log sources, a message has not been logged from the application since the Operations Sentinel Server services were started.

  • For MCP, UNIX, and Linux systems, the Monitor property for the system has been set to False. Setting Monitor to False for the system automatically disables logging, even if the Enabled property for the corresponding log is set to True.

Error

Logging is enabled but is not being performed. This is an abnormal condition and usually indicates the connection to the log source is down.

You will never see Error for an external log source because a connection to the log source is not maintained.
