Logs and log sources are the underlying objects you control from the Log Policies node.
Common Terminology
To assist in using and understanding Log Policies, familiarize yourself with the following terminology.
Logging
A facility of Operations Sentinel that records messages and event reports that come from managed systems and software applications running with Operations Sentinel.
Log Policies
A node in Administration mode of Operations Sentinel Console that allows you to centrally manage the storage of the messages and event reports that come from managed systems and software applications running with Operations Sentinel.
log
The set of log files that pertain to a single managed system or other log source.
log source
An identifier that signifies where a logged message originated. Log sources include system consoles, Operations Sentinel, and external applications.
log file
A file that contains all logged messages for one day pertaining to a single managed system or other log source. These messages originate from various sources, such as system consoles, Operations Sentinel, and external applications.
log file retention
Indicates for each log how many days log files should be retained. See About Log File Retention for more information.
