The Operations Sentinel Windows Agent monitors events on each Windows partition, server, and workstation on which it is installed, and reports those events to Operations Sentinel. On a Windows system, an event is any significant occurrence that requires notification to the user. By default, Windows events are logged to one of three event log files:
System log
Security log
Application log
The Windows Agent converts Windows events to Operations Sentinel alerts. In the Alerts window, if the Windows system is part of the open zone, the Zone Alerts icon indicates these alerts. If the system is not part of the open zone, the Other Alerts icon indicates these alerts.
The Windows Agent includes the following software:
The Windows Agent for Operations Sentinel management of Windows systems
The spo_event program, which lets you write custom agents on managed Windows systems
Event Server Application Program Interface (API), which provides another way to write custom agents on managed Windows systems
Operations Sentinel SNMP Trap Operations Sentinel SNMP Trap service
The Windows Agent is automatically installed on the Operations Sentinel server when you install the Operations Sentinel server software. For other Windows systems, you can install the Windows Agent using the Operations Sentinel release media. See the Operations Sentinel Administration and Operations Guide for detailed information.
