Responding to a Read-and-Reply Message

Read-and-reply messages begin with a message number (0 through 9) and a hyphen. The message text describes the response choices. See the System Console Messages Reference Manual for a list of all the console messages and their responses.

To respond to a read-and-reply message, use one of the following methods:

Method 1

  1. Type the message number on the command line. OS 2200 Console View highlights the message in the read-and-reply pane.

  2. After the message number, type a space followed by your response. Press Enter. Your response is echoed in the traffic pane.

Method 2

  1. Position the cursor on the message in the read-and-reply pane to which you want to reply and right-click.

  2. Click Reply from the shortcut menu.

OS 2200 Console View highlights the selected message in the read-and-reply pane and places the message number and a space on the command line, followed by the cursor.

  3. Type your response after the message number on the command line and press Enter. Your response is echoed in the traffic pane.

Method 3

  1. Position the cursor on the message in the read-and-reply pane to which you want to reply.

  2. Click the left mouse button. OS 2200 Console View highlights the selected message in the read-and-reply pane and places the message number and a space on the command line, followed by the cursor.

  3. Type your response after the message number on the command line and press Enter. Your response is echoed in the traffic pane.

After the OS 2200 partition accepts the response, OS 2200 Console View removes the message from the read-and-reply pane and updates the copy in the traffic pane by removing the number in front of the message.

Notes:

  • The first character on the command line must be the message number.

  • Separate the message number and your reply with a space.

  • If the active autoaction database causes a read-and-reply message (or any associated supplemental messages) to be held, OS 2200 Console View does not remove them from the hold pane when you answer the message. You can manually remove them if the autoaction database does not provide this action when the message is answered.
