This topic contains symptoms and possible solutions to help you address problems you might encounter when using OS 2200 Console View.
Symptoms
Console connection state remains "In Progress"
The console connection state can remain "In Progress" indefinitely for one or more of the following reasons:
The console is down, either because the OS 2200 partition is down or because the console itself is not Up.
The Operations Servers your workstation tries to connect to are down.
The system, partition, or console name is misspelled either in the New dialog box on the File menu or in the Connection pane of the View Properties dialog box on the File menu.
The name of the Operations Server is misspelled. This name was specified as part of the installation process or through Operations Sentinel Console.
The Operations Servers your workstation tries to connect to do not host the specified console.
There is a network problem, either between the ClearPath Plus server and the Operations Server or between the Operations Server and your workstation.
Your Operations Sentinel workstation does not have access privileges for the Operations Server or for the console hosted on the Operations Server.
OS 2200 Console View displays a dialog box that identifies the specific problems present. To further isolate the cause of an apparent connection delay, use either OS 2200 Console Manager to view the properties of active Operations Servers and consoles or use Operations Sentinel Console.
A macro generator program (.exe) that was implemented using .NET technology (for example, C#) does not run
A macro generator program (.exe) that is implemented using .NET technology (for example, C#) only runs if the .NET runtime security policy for the Local/Intranet zone is set to FullTrust.
To set this security policy
Open up the Microsoft .NET Framework Configuration utility. On the Start menu, point to Programs, Administrative Tools, and then click Microsoft .NET Framework Configuration.
In the tree pane, click Runtime Security Policy, Machine Code Groups, and then All_Code.
Right-click Local/Intranet_Zone and click Properties.
On the Permission Set tab panel, change the permission set to FullTrust.
Click OK.
Console connection state changes to "Down"
If you have a view open to a console and the console goes down, the console connection state in OS 2200 Console View changes to "Down." The last data received from the console remains in the window.
If the console termination was
Normal (typical termination), the connection state quickly changes from "Down" to "In Progress" until CP-AMS automation or operator input from another console restarts the console.
Unplanned (the console aborts or experiences abnormal termination), due to hardware or software failure, the view attempts to reestablish a connection. The connection state quickly changes from "Down" to "In Progress." See Logical Console Recovery for information on how OS 2200 Console View discovers and recovers consoles.
Message delivery to OS 2200 Console View stops
If message delivery to the OS 2200 Console View window stops, either the Operations Sentinel server or the OS 2200 partition is down. Check the console status and host status icons in the status bar to determine which component is down.
OS 2200 Console View automatically retries the connection and reestablishes the connection when the server or the host becomes available again. See Logical Console Recovery for information on how OS 2200 Console View discovers and recovers consoles.
You receive an error message that states the HOLD message maximum limit is reached but the hold pane appears to be empty or only contains a few messages
This problem occurs when a hold pane is filled with suppressed messages. To check, open a view with message suppression turned off for the console with the problem. After the connection is made to the console, the hold pane should be filled with the suppressed messages.
To remove the messages
Select the message(s) you want to remove (typically all messages).
Right-click the messages and click Release from the shortcut menu.
See Removing Messages from the Hold Pane for more information.
Host connection state changes to "Down"
If the OS 2200 partition goes down, the host connection icon on the status bar changes to "Down." The last messages received from the console remain in the OS 2200 Console View window.
OS 2200 Console View stays connected to the console. Message display resumes when the partition is available again.
Multiple attempts to connect to host.partition.console failed
Check that the console exists, is "Up," and that the system, partition, and console names are spelled correctly.
In addition, the Operations Server hosting the console might not be configured as an Operations Sentinel server on the workstation that is running OS 2200 Console View.
To add the Operations Server to the list of Operations Sentinel servers configured for the workstation, use Operations Sentinel Console. Click Options on the Tools menu. See the Operations Sentinel Console Help for more information.
OS 2200 Console View does not reflect name change
Using Server Control Client, an administrator can change the name of a ClearPath Plus server. Similarly, using Software Configuration Management System, an administrator can change the name of an OS 2200 partition or OS 2200 console in a ClearPath Plus server. OS 2200 Console View cannot automatically track these name changes. Consequently, the Connection tab panel under Properties on the File menu displays the old names.
As long as the console remains active (Up), the connection between OS 2200 Console View and the console remains unaffected and continues to communicate despite the name change. If you later try to connect to the console using OS 2200 Console View, you must continue to use the old names as long as the console remains active (Up). Once the console is taken down and brought back up, the old names immediately become invalid (even if OS 2200 Console View was running throughout the entire process). .
When a name changes, use the Connection tab panel under Properties on the File menu to update the system, partition, and console names. If you update the connection properties, OS 2200 Console View uses the new names when it can access the console again or the console is recovered.
When the name of a ClearPath Plus server, OS 2200 partition, or OS 2200 console is changed, an administrator must use Operations Sentinel Console to also change the name in each Operations Sentinel zone that contains the system, partition, or console.
