Connection Methods

[UNIX, Other]

Operations Sentinel supports the following methods for connecting a managed UNIX or Linux system to the Operations Sentinel server:

TELNET and SSH provide capabilities for operating consoles for any remote system. For more information about these connection methods, see “ANSI X3.64 Connection Methods [UNIX, Other].”

[OS 2200]

Operations Sentinel supports ClearPath OS 2200 connections indirectly using a Service Processor. All OS 2200 consoles in a ClearPath Enterprise System communicate with the Service Processor of the server. An Operations Sentinel server serves as the host for each OS 2200 console. This Operations Sentinel server sends and receives the console requests and console responses to or from the Service Processor. Operations Sentinel communicates with the Service Processor using TCP/IP.

[MCP]

Operations Sentinel supports TCP/IP LAN-based system connections for MCP systems. For more information about these connections, see the Operations Sentinel Interface for ClearPath MCP Software Installation and Configuration Guide.

[Windows]

Operations Sentinel supports TCP/IP LAN-based system connections for Windows systems.

For the types of systems listed in bold above and for other network connected devices, such as routers, Operations Sentinel also provides for monitoring their network accessibility using ping technology. Note that ping can only determine the ability of the system to communicate on the network and does not provide any insight into the load or activity of the system. It is only available when the ping (ICMP) interface is enabled on the monitored system.
