Ping Monitoring

Ping monitoring requires a TCP/IP network connection on the Operations Sentinel server and on each managed device.

Operations Sentinel uses the name spo_ping as the Connection Service Name for each system that you want to monitor using ping. You do not need to specify anything in the services file as there is no port number associated with ping monitoring. However, for this interface to work, ping must be enabled on the target device. Multiple ping connections for the same system are not useful as they only provide duplicate information.

You can use ping in conjunction with other Operations Sentinel monitoring capabilities to provide different views of the state of a system. Note that each configured connection is identified as a logically separate system, even though they may represent the same physical system.
