Connectors on terminal/communications servers are frequently RJ-45. The Connection Type column in the following table identifies the interfaces to a 25-pin connection. The 25-pin connector is either DTE or DCE as shown and can be connected to the opposite type of connector. The connectors (or adapters) attach directly to the managed system. Use RJ-45 cables, such as those in the Unisys CBL 1000 family to connect the Operations Sentinel server (asynchronous controller), ATS, or NAS to the connector on the managed system.
Intermixing RJ-45 Cables
There is no standard for RJ-45 cables. Typically these cables are straight-through cables, but you should not intermix cables intended for different products. Purchase cables from the manufacturer of the controlling device, and use the cables only with that device.
Supported Serial Interfaces
This table lists information for suggested serial interfaces.
Device | Port Style | Connection Type | Connects To |
---|---|---|---|
Unisys U 6000 console and other serial ports | DTE | DCE | |
Most modems | DCE | DTE | |
Splitter - Master port | 25-pin F | DTE | DCE |
Splitter - Numbered ports | 25-pin F | DCE | DTE |
Notes:
The information in the Connection Type column converts from the Port Style (usually RJ-45) to a 25-pin male connector.
For non-Unisys products, refer to the information of the manufacturer and specifications.
Male and Female Connectors
You might have to use male-to-male and female-to-female adapters (typically called gender benders) to make a connection. It is recommended to have extra adapters available.
Null-Modem Adapters
Although you should avoid using null-modem adapters by purchasing the correct connectors listed in the previous table, it is recommended to have a few null-modem adapters available in case you receive the wrong part.
