A direct serial connection uses the serial interfaces of the Operations Sentinel server to connect to a serial port on a managed system or other external device. In addition, to the standard serial ports, various serial port options exist for the various Operations Sentinel server platforms.

This connection method permits control of the managed system while it is still in single user mode and before the TELNET or SSH server starts.

Figure H-1 shows two systems managed using direct serial connections.
