System Architecture Interface Layer (SAIL) software provides the base operating system for the Intel platform, and the software environment for the OS 2200 operating system and applications. SAIL includes a limited set of packages based on the Linux operating system, and provides a platform independent software environment for the OS 2200 system.
Using Serial-Over-LAN (SOL)
Serial Over LAN (SOL) provides an alternative to connecting the SAIL system to the Operations Server using a physical serial cable. Instead serial input and output are redirected over the LAN using IP. Operations Sentinel must be configured differently for SAIL-based systems that use SOL instead of the traditional physical serial connection. SAIL-based systems starting with the Dorado 4100 use this technology.
SAIL-based systems prior to the Dorado 4100 connected to the Operations Server using a serial cable to the serial port on the Operations Server. Dorado 4100 systems are connected to the Operations Server using SOL.
SAIL Node
The SAIL object is defined as a UNIX/Linux System object.
