Only a member of the SPO Administrators group can modify views. Customizing the topology is available only in the Department and Enterprise editions of Operations Sentinel.
To modify a view, do the following:
In the navigation pane, select the zone that contains the view.
In the display pane, select the view. The details pane contains the properties of the view.
As appropriate, change the properties of the view. The description pane provides an explanation of each property.
Customizing the Topology
To create a custom topology of the objects in the view, select
the Topology property and click the
ellipsis icon (). The
topology editor appears. The topology editor contains:
Note: If the current view is in bold then the message “<view_name> view is new or modified. Please save the view and then click “Topology”” is displayed.
Appearance tab
Use the Appearance tab to change the background image, label text color, line colors, background colors and so on. See the description pane for an explanation of each property.
Placement tab
Use the Placement tab to select the objects you want to appear in the customized topology. To position objects in the topology, select the object from the Available Items column and drag it to either the topology (the upper part of the window) or to the Placed Items column. Use the drag-and-drop operation to roughly position the object and then use the X Axis and Y Axis controls to finalize the position of the object.
To align multiple objects in the topology, select the desired objects in the topology and then select the appropriate alignment (Horizontal or Vertical) from the Alignment drop-down list. Then, use the X Axis and Y Axis controls to finalize the position of the object. The selected objects will be aligned accordingly without any overlap.
Note: If the objects present in the topology editor have long labels, the vertical alignment of such objects might not be seen in a straight line. Because, the label of the object along with the topology image is considered as a single image. Thus, it is recommended to use "Right" orientation for the label text to see the objects on the same vertical line.
To remove an object from the topology, select the object from either the topology or the Placed Items column and drag it to the Available Items column.
You can hide objects not explicitly positioned by setting the Show All Objects property on the Appearance tab to False. If this property is True, Operations Sentinel places objects not explicitly positioned at the bottom of the topology below the lowest explicitly positioned object.
File menu
The file menu contains the following options.
Option | Task |
Save | Saves the changes made in the topology editor. Alternatively, you can pressCtrl+S |
Discard | Discards the changes made in the topology editor. Alternatively, you can press Ctrl+R. |
Exit | Exits the topology editor. |
Note: If you try to exit the topology editor before saving your changes, you are prompted to save the changes if any.
Connection Lines in Topologies
Operations Sentinel Console does not draw a connection line to the network representing Operations Sentinel. If the connection to Operations Sentinel is down, a dashed line, which is red by default, surrounds the image representing the object. If the connection is up, a solid line, which is green by default, surrounds the image representing the object. There is no line around the object if the connection is not monitored. You can change the color of the connection line using the Connection Down Status Color and Connection Up Status Color properties in the topology editor.
Coordinates Limits
Maximum coordinate limit is 8000 for both X axis and Y axis.
While adding objects in topology editor if Y coordinate value reaches 8000, it does not increment further as this is boundary limit. Newly added objects take Y coordinate value as 8000.
