Activating an Alert Policy

Many alert policies can exist on an Operations Sentinel server, but only one can be active at a time. The actions in an action list are executed only if the alert policy containing the action list has been activated and an alert event report raises, acknowledges, or clears an alert that refers to the action list.

The active policy is designated by the icon in the navigation and display panes. In the details pane of the active policy, the value of the Active property is true.

To activate an alert policy

  1. In the navigation pane, expand the Alert Policies node.

  2. Select the alert policy and click Activate on the Action menu.

When you activate an alert policy, its icon in the navigation and display panes changes from to .

Notes:

  • Since only one alert policy can be active at any time, activating an alert policy automatically deactivates the policy that was active.

  • If you have made changes to an alert policy, you cannot activate that alert policy until you have saved the changes.

  • If you activate an alert policy and the activation fails, an alert is raised in an Alerts window. It is also recorded in the log SP-EAI.

  • When you activate an alert policy, any uncompleted actions from the previous alert policy are retained and allowed to complete, including those waiting for time delays or for a port resource.

  • The policy that is active at the time an alert is acknowledged or cleared determines the actions that are executed for those events, even if the alert was raised when a different alert policy was active.

  • If you activate an alert policy while it’s running its skip time, a message "<alert_policy_name> alert policy is running its skip time currently. If you still want to activate it then change the "Skip Time Enabled" property to false, save and then activate it" is displayed.
