The following instructions show you how to create a new terminal session using one of the sample launch definitions that Operations Sentinel provides. This example uses TELNET, but the instructions can be applied to most of the sample terminal session launch definitions available to you. You can configure a TELNET session for a UNIX, Linux, MCP, or OS 2200 system. This example uses OS 2200 as the system type. Keep in mind, there are many ways to configure terminal sessions; this is only one possible way.
To configure a Telnet terminal session for a monitored OS 2200 system
Select the External Applications node.
The display pane shows the launch definitions Operations Sentinel provides and any your site has created. All sample launch definitions Operations Sentinel supplies that apply to terminal sessions begin with "SPO.TerminalSession." and are followed by the type of terminal session.
Select SPO.TerminalSession.Telnet and click Copy on the File menu.
Select the External Applications node and click Paste on the File menu.
A new launch definition is added to the display pane called Copy of SPO.TerminalSession.Telnet.
In the details pane
Rename the launch definition in the Name property. It is recommended that you choose a name that easily identifies the external application that is launched and does not begin with SPO.
Set the Main Menu Application property to True so that the external application is included in the Applications menu of Operations Sentinel Console.
Specify the Object Filter property to include the specific OS 2200 systems you want to launch the terminal session for. Or you can be more general and specify the Object Filter to allow the launch definition to apply to all OS 2200 systems.
Test the launch definition before you save it. Once it is saved, it is available to all users.
Save your changes. You can now access a terminal session to the selected OS 2200 systems from the Applications menu of Operations Sentinel Console.
Instead of starting with the sample launch definitions provide by Operations Sentinel, you can also create your own.
