The Resource Monitor Policies feature allows you to configure policies for the Windows Resource Monitor (WRM) agent and the UNIX/Linux Resource Monitor (ULRM) agent. These agents monitor the resources on your Windows or UNIX/Linux system. Each agent on a monitored system requires a resource monitor policy. This policy contains information on what resources you want to monitor. The policy also specifies threshold conditions, event log filter definitions, custom actions, and other information the agent needs. See the Operations Sentinel Administration and Configuration Guide for more information on custom actions. The resource monitor policy is created and stored on the Operations Sentinel server and distributed to each monitored system.
DEFAULT Resource Monitor Policy
Operations Sentinel provides a default resource monitor policy for both the Windows Resource Monitor (WRM) agent and the UNIX/Linux Resource Monitor (ULRM) agent. The DEFAULT policy may be updated in future Operations Sentinel release so you should not modify the DEFAULT policy itself. Instead, copy the default policy and then modify it for your own purposes.
Resource Monitor Policy for WRM Agent
The following table lists the resources the WRM agent monitors and the values in the DEFAULT policy.
Resource | DEFAULT Policy Value |
Applications | -- |
Disks | C: drive with a minimum free space value of 10 percent |
Event Logs | Application, System, and Security event logs with filter defined to forward all event entries that have event severity type of Warning or Error |
CPU | Maximum usage value of 90 percent |
Memory | Maximum usage value of 90 percent |

Interval Property of Resources
Each resource group in a policy has an Interval property with the exception of the Event Logs resource. Interval is the time period the agent waits, in seconds, between status checks of resources in a group on the monitored system. The Event Logs resource group does not require a periodic check because it is driven by events, where it is notified each time a new entry is written into the event log. The default intervals are as follows:
120 seconds for disks, CPU, and memory.
30 seconds for all others.
All intervals must be 10 seconds or larger.
Resource Monitor Policy for ULRM Agent
The following table lists the resources the ULRM agent monitors and the values in the DEFAULT policy.
Resource | DEFAULT Policy Value |
Critical Processes | -- |
Long Processes | Maximum gain value is 15 seconds |
File Systems | Minimum free space for the root file system is 10% |
Log files | -- |
CPU | System and User maximum usage values are 90% |
Memory | Maximum usage value is 90% |

Interval Property of Resources
Each resource group has an Interval property. Interval is the time period the agent waits, in seconds, between status checks of resources in a group on the monitored system. The default intervals are as follows:
120 seconds (2 minutes) for CPU, log files, memory, and file systems.
30 seconds for critical processes, long processes, and custom actions.
All intervals must be 10 seconds or larger.
