Exporting Configuration

The Export function enables users to create an XML file from the Operations Sentinel configuration. This functionality is applicable for Managed Classes, Managed Objects, Managed Groups, Images, Resource Monitor Policies, Zones, Roles, External Applications nodes, and Alert Policies.

To export configuration

  1. On the File menu, click the Import / Export Config option.

The Import and Export dialog box appears.

  2. In the Import and Export dialog box, click the ellipses () button.

Note: The previous XML file is automatically populated in the text box next to the ellipses button when you open the Import and Export dialog box.

  3. Browse and select the existing XML file which supports Operations Sentinel schema or type the file path in the text box next to the ellipses button.

    Notes:

    • If you select an existing XML file with Operations Sentinel configuration items, the configuration items are displayed.

    • If you type a new file name, it creates a blank file.

  4. Select the systems for which you want to export configuration from the Operations Sentinel Display pane.

Note: Multiple selection is allowed within a specific class of objects. For example, if you want to export five Windows systems and two Unix/Linux systems, first export five Windows systems to the selected xml file, then select and export two Unix/Linux systems to the same file or different file.

  5. Click the Export button. The XML configuration file is immediately updated or an XML file is created if it does not exist.

    Notes:

    • You can click the Export All button to export configuration of the Managed Classes, Managed Objects, Managed Groups, Images, Resource Monitor Policies, Zones, Roles, External Applications nodes, and Alert Policies.

    • Exporting zones will not export the associated images and background images, so ensure that the target Operations Sentinel server configuration contains those images.

    • You cannot export individual topology views. Also, the action lists and templates from the Alert Policies.

You can delete items from the tree view, if you have selected wrong configuration entities. When all the items are deleted under group node, the group node will be deleted because it doesn’t contain any item.
