About Log Policy Set Up Wizard

Operations Sentinel Log Policy has been enhanced to transfer the log files to the Enterprise Output Manager (EOM) server. The Setup Log Policy wizard is provided to setup the Log Policy. You can select the Log Objects whose log files have to be transferred and set rules appropriately. Previous day’s log files of the selected Log Objects are transferred to the EOM server using the Directory Monitoring attribute.

In the Logviewer utility, the SendLog to EOM option is provided to send the currently active log file (including the results of a consolidated file) to EOM.

To open the Setup Log Policy wizard,

The Setup Log Policy wizard allows the user to select the systems or log objects whose log files can be transferred to the EOM server. Log files for the selected systems or log objects are available to EOM server through Directory Monitoring attribute setting at the EOM server-side.

Various activities can be performed on the EOM server-side with the supplied Log files. For example, print the file, post the file to web, send the files through an email message, search for data, reformat an output report, and so on.

In the Setup Log Policy wizard, on the left side you can view the systems and the log objects that are present under the Log Policies node in the Administration mode of Operations Sentinel Console. Select the log objects and click the Add button to add the log objects. After selecting all the required Log objects, click the Set Rule button. This rule monitors the log files pertaining to selected Log Objects and transfers the log files of the previous day to a shared directory under Operations Sentinel’s data folder “<CommonAppDataFolder>\Unisys\Operations Sentinel\LOGSTOEOM”. Directory monitoring attribute has to be set at the EOM server-side in order to pick the log files from this shared directory location.

The files copied to the monitored shared directory has the following naming convention:

<Log Object Name>-<date&time of file creation>.slg
ConsolidatedLog-< date&time of file creation>.slg
FilteredFile-<Log Object Name>-<date&time of file creation>.slg

where,

<LogObject Name> The name of the Log object or the host system to which the log file belong to.
date&time of file creation The date at which the log file was created and the time, in 24-hour time format, at which the Log file transfer operation is performed.
.slg The extension of the log file.

ConsolidatedLog

The name appended to the output file produced as a result of the consolidated log operation performed by the user.
FilteredFile The name appended to the output file produced as a result of the Filter operation performed by the user.

The task of transferring the files occurs on a daily basis after the rule is set through this wizard.

In order to stop the transfer of Log files, the Log object should be removed from the Selected Log Objects list. For instant transfer of any other Log file, you can use the Logviewer utility.

In the Logviewer utility, click Tools and then select the SendLog to EOM option to transfer the currently open Log file.

Note: The Log Policy Setup – EOM option is available with the Operations Sentinel Server version only. If you have installed the Operations Sentinel Workstation version, then Log Policy Setup – EOM option will not be visible under the Tools menu.
