About Zones

A zone indicates the full collection of what a user of Operations Sentinel Console can view and manage at one time in Operations mode. It typically is a subset of the Operations Sentinel configuration (data repository). Only one zone can be open and expanded at a time. By default, a zone named All is supplied, and encompasses all systems and other objects that have been configured. An Operations Sentinel administrator can create and configure additional zones to best meet the needs of your site. For example, your site might need a zone for the day shift, one for the night shift, and another for the weekend. Additional examples explaining why your site might create multiple zones include zones based on

Different users on different workstations can open the same zone simultaneously.

In Operations mode, the small alert icon beside the name of each zone indicates the most severe unseen alert that is currently raised for any system or other object included in the zone. The icon changes dynamically as alerts are raised, cleared, and marked as seen. This happens for both the open zone and any unopened zones. This is the only monitoring that is done for zones that are unopened.
