Customizing the Topology

A site can customize the topology display for a view when using the Department or Enterprise edition. A custom topology allows explicit control of the following items of the topology:

The site can also customize the alert severity images displayed for the view when it is displayed as a view icon in a parent view.

To customize the topology, do the following:

  1. In Administration mode, select the node of the zone, folder, or view containing the desired view, then select the desired view in the display pane. The details pane contains the properties of the selected view.

  2. Select the Browse button on the Topology Display property. A topology editor dialog appears that lets you change the background image, label text color, appearance of objects.

The dialog also displays the topology for the view.  You can position View icons on the topology by dragging the icon from the toolbar to the topology or from the topology to the toolbar.  The bottom of the topology is shaded to represent object icons that have not been explicitly positioned.  You can position object icons on the topology by dragging the icon from the dynamic section of the display to the desired location and vice versa.  Operations Sentinel always displays View icons in the topology, either on the toolbar or on the display image.  Operations Sentinel always displays View icons on the toolbar for table displays.

All objects not explicitly positioned appear as they do in previous versions of Operations Sentinel.  You can hide objects not explicitly positioned.  This is controlled via the view property “Show Objects Not Explicitly Located”.  If this property is true, object icons not explicitly positioned on the topology display are located at the bottom of the topology below the lowest explicitly positioned object.  View icons not explicitly positioned by the site appear on the toolbar docked to the side of the control.  This implies that objects added to the data model optionally appear at the bottom of topologies and subviews added to the data model appear as view icons on the toolbar until explicitly positioned by the site.
