Specifying Permissions for an Object

The Security tab in the details pane enables an administrator to modify the permissions for the selected object. These permissions apply whether the administrator creates the object in Administration mode or whether they are dynamically created by an AC event report.

The permissions for each managed class are as follows:

Acknowledge alerts

Allows acknowledgement of alerts for the object from Operations Sentinel. This does not control acknowledging of alerts through AL event reports.

Clear alerts

Allows clearing of alerts for this object from Operations Sentinel. This does not control clearing of alerts through AL event reports.

Delete

Allows deletion of the object.

Modify

Allows updates to the properties of the object in the Administration mode. This does not control the updating of the object properties through AC event reports.

Read

Allows this object to be viewed in Operations Sentinel. This permission controls whether the object appears in both Administration mode and Operations mode.

When set, these permissions override the default permissions set on the managed class.

To view or update permissions

  1. In the Administration mode, select the Managed Objects node in the navigation pane.

The display pane lists the classes and the number of managed objects in each class.

  2. In the display pane, select a class whose permissions you want to view.

  3. Select the Security tab in the details pane. The Security tab displays the Operations Sentinel roles on the left side. When you select a role from the list, Operations Sentinel displays the permissions for that role on the right side.

  4. To update any of the existing permissions, set or clear the Allow or Deny box.

  5. Save the changes.
