Setting up Log Policy

You can setup the Log Policy to transfer the currently open log file to the Enterprise Output Manager (EOM) server. Log files of the selected systems or log objects are transferred to the EOM server through the Directory Monitoring attribute setting at the EOM server-side. To setup Log Policy, click the Tools menu and then select SendLog to EOM.

You can perform various activities on the EOM server-side with the supplied log files. For example, print the file, post the file to Web, send the files through an e-mail, search for data, reformat an output report, and so on.

When the log files are transferred to EOM, a message appears that the currently open log file is copied to the shared directory under the Operations Sentinel’s data folder

“<CommonAppDataFolder>\Unisys\Operations Sentinel\LOGSTOEOM”. Set the Directory Monitoring attribute at the EOM server-side to extract log files from this shared directory location.

Note: You can also transfer the Consolidated log files and filtered files to the EOM server.

The files copied to the monitored shared directory have the following naming convention:

<Log Object Name>-<date&time of file creation>.slg
ConsolidatedLog-< date&time of file creation>.slg
FilteredFile-<Log Object Name>-<date&time of file creation>.slg

where

<LogObject Name> The name of the log object or the host system to which the log file belong to.
<date&time of file creation> The date at which the log file was created and the time, in 24-hour time format, at which the Log file transfer operation was performed.
.slgThe extension of the log file.
ConsolidatedLogThe name appended to the output file produced as a result of the consolidated log operation performed by the user.
FilteredFileThe name appended to the output file produced as a result of the Filter operation performed by the user.

Refer to the Operations Sentinel Console Help and Enterprise Output Manager Help for additional information on the Directory Monitoring attribute settings.
