An alarm is a condition that requires attention. Alarms come from events that the console detects, such as a communication problem or from the ClearPath Plus OS 2200 Autoaction Message System (CP-AMS). You can configure OS 2200 Console View so that you receive notification whenever an alarm is raised on the console.
Alarm notification automatically stops in all instances of OS 2200 Console View when all alarms are cleared or acknowledged by ClearPath Plus OS 2200 Autoaction Message System (CP-AMS) or Operations Sentinel.
If OS 2200 Console View is started from the Operations Sentinel Console, it is recommended that you turn off alarm notification in OS 2200 Console View. This prevents you from being notified of the same event in two different places.
Alarm Notification in OS 2200 Console View
OS 2200 Console View lets you configure alarm notification so you can specify
Whether you want to be notified of an alarm.
How you are notified of an alarm. You can be notified by

The OS 2200 Console View window flashing
A sound
You can specify different alarm notification methods for each operating mode.
When an event or CP-AMS action causes an alarm, the logical console notifies all open views. If you have alert notification turned on, OS 2200 Console View
Uses the configured alarm notification method to indicate that an alarm was raised on the logical console.
Updates the logging or alert icon on the status bar if a change in the logging or alert service running on the Operations Sentinel server caused the alert.
Clearing Alarms
Except for one type of alarm, you cannot clear alarms using OS 2200 Console View. The exception is an alarm that a read-and-reply message generated. In this case, answering the message clears the alarm.
Typically, you clear alarms manually using Operations Sentinel Console or automatically with the autoaction message system database. Clearing the last alarm for the connected console in Operations Sentinel stops any alarm notification behavior defined for OS 2200 Console View.
Resetting Alarms
OS 2200 Console View continues to notify you of any outstanding alarms until either
All alarms for the connected console are cleared
You reset alarm notification in this instance of OS 2200 Console View
Resetting alarm notification stops further notification of any outstanding alarms. You continue to receive notification of any new alarms.
Note: Operations Sentinel provides additional notification of OS 2200 console alarms. Instead of providing a general notification to a system operator, Operations Sentinel Console identifies the specific condition that requires attention in its Alerts window and provides more notification options, such as email, paging, and cross-system automation.
