Compatibility Considerations

Migrating from Earlier Releases to Operations Sentinel 8.0 or Higher

You might notice a slight change in OS 2200 Console View behavior when migrating from earlier releases to Operations Sentinel level 8.0 or higher if more than one user-id login is used on your Operations Sentinel workstation. Previous versions of OS 2200 Console View did not have user attributes; instead they were defined as application attributes. Prior to 8.0, when any workstation user changed one of these attribute values, it applied to all subsequent OS 2200 Console View sessions. Now all users on OS 2200 Console View workstations have their own personalized views.

Running a Mixed Environment of Operations Sentinel Levels

If you are running a mixed environment of pre-8.0 and 8.0 or higher Operations Sentinel servers, there are certain compatibility considerations you should be aware of. Using the 8.0 release or higher of OS 2200 Console View, you can save, open, and delete views on the 8.0 or higher Operations Sentinel servers. You cannot save, open, and delete views on the pre-8.0 Single Point Operations server using the 8. x release of OS 2200 Console View.

Converting Older Console Views

To convert pre-8.0 or higher OS 2200 console views on your workstation, use the OS 2200 Console View Conversion Utility.

To access this utility

  1. On the Start menu, point to Programs, Unisys Operations Sentinel x.y.z (where x.y.z is the level of Operations Sentinel), and then Administrative Tools, and click OS 2200 Console View Conversion Utility.

A dialog box appears that lists the Operations Sentinel servers your workstation can connect to.

  2. Select the desired Operations Sentinel server. You can only select one server.

  3. Click Proceed.

A window appears listing the console views that have not been converted. Select the desired console views.

  4. Click Convert.

Note: Conversion does not remove pre-8.0 OS 2200 console views from your workstation. You can continue to select the original version of a converted view with a pre-8.0 version of OS 2200 Console View. If you make changes to the original version of a view using a pre-8.0 version of Console View, you can convert them again.

Security

To enhance security, OS 2200 Console View does not allow you to change the connection attributes or select a view associated with a different console if Console View was started with a shortcut that includes the system, partition, and console options, or the view option.

Autoaction Database Syntax

The consoles for the OS 2200 partitions of ClearPath Plus servers support the same autoaction database syntax used to define automation for PC Console (in the previous console architecture).

Console Printer

With ClearPath Plus servers, a separate OS 2200 console printer (also known as a PageWriter) is no longer available as an option. Instead Operations Sentinel Log Viewer replaces this function.

Scripts

You must re-enter scripts defined for PC Console (in the previous console architecture) as macros for use with OS 2200 Console View. You can create the macro in one of two ways:

You must enter commands in the macro one per line as plain text without any embedded format or control characters. Save your macro with the .macro file extension into the installation-data-folder/os2200-macros folder on the Operations Server that hosts the consoles.

See About Macros for more information on macros.

Friendly Console Menu Interface

OS 2200 Console View does not provide the Friendly Console menu interface (used in the previous console architecture) that assisted the operator with Exec command input.

OS 2200 Console View does provide the capability to select and execute macros (scripts containing Exec keyins). In addition, you can implement portions of the Friendly Console menu interface using macro generators. Sample macro generators are included in the installation-data-folder\os2200-macros folder.

OS 2200 Console View also provides the capability to view additional information such as the Exec Operations Reference Manual.
