Logical Console Recovery

How OS 2200 Console View Locates a Logical Console

When you open a view, OS 2200 Console View tries to locate the logical console associated with the view. To locate the logical console, OS 2200 Console View checks the first server in the list of Operations Sentinel servers configured for your workstation. This list was created when Operations Sentinel was installed on your workstation or was specified using Options on the Tools menu in Operations Sentinel Console. If this Operations Sentinel server

OS 2200 Console View repeats this process until it finds the logical console. If it reaches the end of the server list without finding the logical console, OS 2200 Console View returns to the first server on the list and starts looking again. This process enables OS 2200 Console View to locate the logical console if the partition is down, for example, on the first pass through the list but it is Up on a later pass. If the console cannot be found, you are periodically asked if you want to continue the search.

Once OS 2200 Console View finds the logical console, the connection state changes from In Progress to Up. Once the connection state is Up, console traffic appears in the OS 2200 Console View window.

Logical Console Recovery

Using the same process described above, OS 2200 Console View automatically finds a logical console when the logical console is rehosted on another Operations Sentinel server.  When a view to a console is open and the connection to the console is lost, OS 2200 Console View looks for the logical console on the Operations Sentinel server that last hosted it.  If OS 2200 Console View does not find the logical console, it continues to search through the list of Operations Sentinel servers defined for this workstation or automatically discovered by OS 2200 Console View until it finds it.
