Remote Printer (RP) Reports (non-ROC)

A non-ROC Report that has an output device of RP is printed by the Prints/Reprints system REPRINTS software. The Report is generated to produce a Line Printer backup file, with the DESTINATION file attribute set to specify the Terminal Printer (from Glb.Stn) and the DISPOSITION file attribute set to cause the file to be queued for printing as soon as it is released by the Report program.

Although the Report can be printed on a Terminal Printer, if its output device type is RP, the following features are ignored:

DESTINATION Attribute Prints/Reprints Software

All ROC Reports, as well non-ROC RP (RePrints) Reports, will unconditionally have their DESTINATION attribute set to INVALID immediately prior to the DESTINATION attribute being set to the required printer name. This causes an attribute error if the host CONFIGURE print default is set to STRICT, and a printer named INVALID has not been defined in the print list to trap such requests.

ROC provides a dummy print destination INVALID, so that if the specified destination is not valid and the setting is STRICT, the printer output is queued to INVALID, rather than the previous valid destination, which might not be appropriate.
