DASDL Population Options

Two DASDL options are available to reduce unplanned interruptions when database structures unexpectedly reach their logical capacity. Use the configuration properties under the DASDL category of the Segment to set these options at the database level, or the Internal DASDL category of the Segment class to set them for individual <<Ispec>> classes and the Events.

The Population Increase option enables the population of a structure to increase automatically. When set, the value determines how much of an increase to allow. This happens without interruption unless the structure has reached the system maximum of 1000 areas.

The second option, Population Warning, causes a warning to be issued when the population of a structure approaches its limit. The value associated with the option determines how far in advance of the limit those warnings are issued.

The advantages of using these options are:

If the Population Increase and the Population Warning options are in use, you are warned when an automatic area increase has taken place. This warning is generated as a waiting entry from the Generate or Configure WFL. The waiting entry is issued at the end of the Generate/Configure. The warning includes the time at which any structure had its AREAS increased. You have the option to terminate the generate, and fix up the population in Builder, or continue. If you choose to continue, any records that need to be added to the dataset causes a population increase, all existing records are visible.
