The Data Exchange Development Workbench (DDW) is a Windows-based application designed for defining transformations from a source data store to one or more target data store. You can deploy these transformations to the Runtime Administration and monitor the runtime activities on the Administration site.
You can install two versions of DDW on the same Windows partition and run it simultaneously.
The DDW user interface enables you to perform the following operations:
Connect to the DDW Repository and load schemas.
Create and manage transformations.
Validate and deploy transformations.
Import and export transformations.
Before you begin performing any operation using DDW, it is recommended that you refer to the following sections and develop familiarity with the terminologies related to Data Exchange and its user interface:
It is also recommended to refer Data Exchange Management Studio (DEMS) Help before you begin. Data Exchange Management Studio (DEMS) is used to define user privileges for users, so their access to installation of the Data Exchange Windows components and their access to functions in the Development Workbench or Runtime Administration Site in that environment can be controlled for improved security. The tasks that a user can perform in DDW will depend on the roles and privileges assigned to that user in DEMS.
