With the introduction of DEMS, before you begin installing Data Exchange, you must consider the following aspects and plan accordingly:
Working environment(s): DEMS enables you to define a virtual environment for the set of hardware on which you install a version of Data Exchange. The environment concept helps you to label a version of Data Exchange in a set of hardware so that particular user privilege can be configured for that environment. The environment concept also helps to isolate different versions of Data Exchange on the same set of hardware. It is a prerequisite to install DEMS before installing the other Data Exchange components. You can define new environments, users, and roles in DEMS. If you do not have a need to define your own, you can use the built-in environment, users, and roles in DEMS.
Note: You can create multiple environments and install different Data Exchange Windows components in different environments. However, these Windows components will not be able to connect to each other if the internal secure connection options are different in the environments in which they are installed. Hence, you must ensure that these environments have the same internal secure connection option. To avoid such situations, it is recommended to install all Windows components that should work together, in the same environment.
User management: You can plan on what kind of access you want to give to your domain or local groups or users who will use DDW and Administration Site for a particular environment.
Note: A user can have different roles in different environments.
Secured connection: You can choose to have a secure connection between all or any of the following:
From source data store to the Runtime Service
From Runtime Service to the target data store
Between Data Exchange Windows components
Between Data Exchange Windows components and the internal databases
For this, you must install and configure SSL certificate in the required machines. For more information about DEMS and configurations required for secured connection, refer to Data Exchange Management Studio (DEMS) Help.
