Unisys Data Exchange is an Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) solution used to extract, transform, and load data between proprietary Unisys data stores and commodity data stores. Data Exchange facilitates timely access to data for business process integration and decision support while minimizing the impact to the online transaction processing environment. It provides near real-time integration of operational data between applications for effective reporting, business intelligence, and big data activities.
Data Exchange works with existing applications and data stores deployed on your ClearPath system, hence minimizing the cost of changing existing application source code and data store schemas.
In this release, Data Exchange supports the following types of data stores:
Unisys proprietary data stores
Enterprise Database Server for ClearPath MCP (Enterprise Database Server)
Enterprise Relational Database Server for ClearPath OS 2200 (RDMS)
Commodity data stores
Microsoft SQL Server (SQL Server)
Oracle database
Kafka Distributed Streaming Platform
In this release, Data Exchange supports transformations from the following source data stores to the target data stores:
Enterprise Database Server to SQL Server
Enterprise Database Server to Oracle database
Enterprise Database Server to Kafka data store
SQL Server to Enterprise Database Server
RDMS to SQL Server
RDMS to Oracle database
RDMS to Kafka data store
Using Data Exchange, you can perform two types of data transformations:
Bulk Data Transformation - Transforms historical data from a transformation source to a transformation target based on the transformation definition.
Changed Data Transformation - Transforms the changed data from a transformation source to a transformation target based on the transformation definition. This is an ongoing process that provides the changed data in near real-time from the transformation source to the transformation target.
Data Exchange is a Windows application that interacts with the ClearPath (MCP and OS 2200) and Windows hosts. It has the following Windows components that you must install irrespective of the ClearPath or Windows host:
Data Exchange Management Studio (DEMS)
Data Exchange Development Workbench (DDW)
Data Exchange Runtime Administration (including Administrative Service and Administration Site)
Data Exchange Runtime Service (Runtime Service)
Additionally, you must install the following depending on the ClearPath or Windows host you use:
MCP Service (including MCP Agent and DMSII Adapter)- For Enterprise Database Server as a transformation source or a transformation target
OS 2200 Agent- For RDMS as a transformation source
Data Exchange Agent for SQL Server (DE Agent for SQL Server) - For SQL Server as a transformation source
You must first install DEMS, create or use existing environment and grant user access. Subsequently, you must install the other Data Exchange components.
After you install the Data Exchange components, in DDW, you can define transformations by creating mappings from the transformation source to the transformation target, and then deploy the transformations to the Administrative Service. The Administration Site enables you to view these transformations, start, stop, and monitor the transformation statuses.
You can also enable secure connections between different components of Data Exchange.
