Managing Users and Groups

The Manage User/Group tab displays the Windows users, domain users, and the built-in user. A user can be an individual user (local/domain) or a group (local/domain).

The built-in user called Everyone is provided. The role and environment you associate with Everyone will apply to all the users. The other user displayed is the one who installed the DEMS. By default, only this user can open and use DEMS and is the Administrator of DEMS.

This user can then make another user the Administrator of Data Exchange Management Studio by clicking Edit, and then clicking the Management Studio Admin toggle button.

Note: To assign the DEMS Admin role to a user or a group, ensure that this user or group has the administrator privilege in the IIS security settings. A simple way is to add the Domain Users group in the user's domain to the site security settings and grant necessary privileges.

You can associate the user with the environments and roles. By assigning a role to a user, you give the user the privileges defined for that role.

Note: It is recommended to avoid using local groups. Do not use local group to group Domain Users, as the membership does not apply to the domain users across the domain.

You can manage user access in the following manner:
