Searching for Information

You can search for information in the Information Center by entering your search keyword in the Search field located above the table of contents. Click Go to display the search results.

Click a result to view the topic. The matched words are highlighted.

To switch between the table of contents view and the search results view, click or .

Use the buttons on the left-side toolbar to decide how you want to display the search results.

Show result descriptions: Allows you to display or hide the description under each search result.

Show result categories: Allows you to group or ungroup the search results under their parent topic.

You can refine your search results by using any of the following methods:

On the window that appears, enter your search keyword, and then click OK.

Defining Search Scope

When you click Go after entering a keyword in the Search field, results from all the topics are displayed by default. You can define a search scope to narrow your search results from a set of predefined topics.

To define a search scope

  1. Next to the Search field, click Search Scope.

    The Select Scope window appears.

  2. Click Show only the following topics and then click New.

    The New Scope window appears.

  3. In the List name field, enter a name for the list.

  4. In the Topics list, select the topics that you want to add to the list. You can select a topic and all of its subtopics by selecting the corresponding check box before the topic. You can also expand a topic to select subtopics of your choice.

  5. Click OK.

    The newly added list appears in the Select Scope window.

  6. Click OK to close the window.

    Your next search will be limited within the topics that are part of the selected scope. The name of the selected scope is displayed next to the Search Scope link.

Techniques for Improving your Search Results

The following table explains the techniques to improve your search results.

Double quotes

Multiple keywords enclosed in double quotes are interpreted as single instance.

The search keyword “gold image” searches for the word gold image, not the separate words gold and image.

Wildcards

  • Use * (asterisk) for multiple unknown or variable characters in the keyword.

  • Use ? (question mark) for a single unknown or variable character in the keyword.

  • The search keyword ent*prise searches for enterprise and the words that contain ent and prise.

  • The search keyword ente?prise searches for enterprise and the words that contain ente and prise.

Boolean (AND, OR, NOT)

Use Boolean operators to make your search more specific search .

  • The search keywords platform AND “gold image” searches for the topics that contain the term platform and the phrase gold image.

  • The search keywords platform OR “gold image” searches for the topics that contain either the term platform or the phrase gold image.

  • The search keywords platform NOT “gold image” searches for the topics that contain the term platform but do not contain the phrase gold image.
