Installation and First Steps FAQ

Does the Firewall allow communication via the mcastport?

If the firewall blocks the mcastport used for communication between the cluster nodes, the nodes cannot see each other. When configuring the initial setup with the FMP Manager user interface, the firewall settings are usually adjusted automatically.

To make sure the firewall does not block the mcastport, check the settings in the following file on each node:

/etc/sysconfig/SuSEfirewall2

Alternatively, start the YaST firewall module on each cluster node. After clicking Allowed Service+Advanced, add mcastport to the list of allowed UDP ports and confirm your changes.

Should I set OpenAIS to start at boot?

Once the Fabric Management Platform (FMP) cluster is created and the resources are added to the cluster, the OpenAIS service is set to not start at boot. This setting allows system administrators to recognize a hardware component failure or to analyze a severe cluster failure before restarting the cluster service on the node. The cluster workload should continue to run on the remaining node in a degraded state such that no node failure would be allowed until the OpenAIS service is restarted manually on the failed node.
