Understanding User Roles

A role is a set of privileges provided to a user or group of users so that they can perform specific tasks. A user who has been assigned with the administrator role can in turn assign roles to the existing users and add or update privileges associated with those roles. A user can be assigned to multiple roles.

The following table lists the four predefined roles provided by the LDAP that comes bundled with the Fabric Manager:

FF_FieldEngineer

Note: This is not synonymous to Unisys service representative. This is a separate user role for the Fabric Manager.

A user in this role has administrative privileges to monitor and manage the fabric.

Can perform all the tasks on Fabric Manager.

FF_Administrator

A user in this role has administrative privileges to monitor and manage the fabric. The user in this role can perform all the operations using Fabric Manager user interface.

This role has full access to all Fabric Manager features and settings. In this role, the user can perform all operations.

Administrator cannot launch platform management console.

FF_Operator

A user in this role has controlled privileges to monitor and manage the fabric.

Can perform all operations on Fabric Manager except:

  • Configuring users

  • Configuring platforms (add/delete)

  • Launching platform management console

  • Editing system (fabric) attributes

FF_Observer

A user in this role can only view the operational status information.

This role can only view the operational status information. This role can do all event related actions such as, open, close, accept and so on including the downloading of diagnostic dumps.
