Restrictions on Partitions Associated with Secure Fabrics

Restrictions for Windows Partitions

Windows partitions connect to a secure fabric via a logical port on the EPP’s Mellanox host channel adapter (HCA). A Windows partition’s logical port can connect to at most 32 secure fabrics. That is, a Windows partition can be associated with at most 32 secure fabrics.

When using the Fabric Manager to associate a partition to a secure fabric, you select a logical port that will be used to connect to one or more secure fabrics. (Note that this association can take place either when you are associating a partition to the secure fabric at commissioning time, or when you are associating the partition to additional secure fabrics after the partition has been commissioned.)

A given Windows partition cannot support more than one logical port used to connect to secure fabrics. A Windows partition can be associated with up to 32 secure fabrics, but the same logical port must be used to connect to all of them. When using the Fabric Manager to commission a Windows partition and associate a secure fabric to that partition, select the default logical port for the Mellanox HBA. Windows will not support alternate logical ports.

 Caution

The Fabric Manager UI will not prevent you from selecting a non-default logical port. However, if you do so, Windows typically issues a “blue screen of death.”

Restrictions for Linux Partitions

A Linux partition can be associated with up to 75 secure fabrics.
