Derived classes have thresholds that you can update. In addition to the threshold information supplied in a managed class, the administrator can also specify threshold information for managed objects. The threshold information in the managed object overrides the threshold information in the class.
When the property value satisfies the threshold condition, an alert is raised. When the value no longer satisfies the threshold condition, the alert is cleared.
To view or update thresholds
In Administration mode, select the Managed Objects node in the navigation pane. The display pane lists the classes and the managed objects in each class.
In the display pane, select a derived class whose thresholds you want to view.
Select the Thresholds tab in the details pane. The Thresholds tab displays any thresholds in a list on the left side. When you select a threshold from the list, Operations Sentinel displays the properties for that threshold on the right side.
Update any of the existing properties. See Using the Details Pane for information.
Save your changes.
Threshold Properties
The following table describes the settings for the thresholds.
Alert Id | The identifier of the alert that is raised when the property value satisfies the threshold condition. Any string value can be specified, but avoid specifying an alert id that Operations Sentinel uses for other purposes. Changing this property does not affect alerts that are currently raised, so that a user must clear these alerts explicitly. |
Alert Severity | The severity of the alert that is raised when the property value satisfies the threshold condition. |
Alert Text | The text of the alert that is raised when the property value satisfies the threshold condition. Changing this property does not affect alerts that are currently raised. This text can include the following substitution strings:
|
Condition | The condition that the property must satisfy for an alert to be raised. When the value no longer satisfies the condition, the alert is automatically cleared. |
Enabled | If true, indicates that the threshold for this property is actively monitored, provided other required threshold information is specified. (If Alert Id, Alert Text, Alert Severity, and Condition are not specified for a property, the property cannot cause an alert to be raised.) If this property is changed from true to false, and alerts are currently raised for this property, these alerts are automatically cleared when the changes are saved. |
Inherited | This indicates that the corresponding property and threshold are defined in an ancestor class. The threshold is displayed for this class, but cannot be altered. (The user must go to the appropriate ancestor class to change the threshold.) |
