Command Template Properties

The following table describes the properties displayed in the details pane for a command template. Use this table to help you interpret and enter data in the details pane.

Property

Definition

Command

Provides the initial part of a command or script to be executed. Multiple commands can be entered as long as you use a semicolon between them. The command string can be any length allowed by the operating system of the Operations Sentinel server.

See Define the Command Property for more information on how to enter commands. See About Environment Variables for more information on the environment variables you can use in the Command property.

It is recommended that you follow the command you enter with a space because any value specified in the Text property for an action that uses this template is appended directly to the command

You should not specify a program that displays windows, since the windows will not appear when the action executes.

Name

Provides the name of the command template. The name you specify should be unique and distinguish the template from others. A unique name facilitates the copying of templates across multiple alert policies.

You can rename a template by editing this property.

Type

Displays the type of template. For a command template, the value is always Command. This property is read-only.
