About Defining Serial Templates

Note: If you need help choosing or configuring an external device such as an alarm or buzzer, which is a prerequisite to defining a serial template, see the Operations Sentinel Administration and Configuration Guide. This Help document assumes you already have your external devices installed and configured.

A serial template controls a serial device that runs switches for lights, bells, power, or any third-party product that supports serial input connections. For example, when an alert occurs, you could configure an alert policy to sound a buzzer at your site to notify operations personnel of the alert. You would use a serial template to define the action of sounding the buzzer.

See Serial Template Properties for more information.
