Specifying a Threshold Condition

You specify a threshold condition using the Threshold Filter Editor window.

To enter or change a threshold condition using the Threshold Filter Editor

  1. Display the Thresholds tab for the desired MCP or OS 2200 system.

  2. In the details pane, click an individual threshold property from the list on the left-hand side of the details pane.

  3. Click the ellipses icon () in the Condition property.

The Condition window appears. The window displays the current threshold conditions, if any.

  4. Click New to create a new Threshold condition, or select an existing Threshold condition and click Edit to edit an existing Threshold condition and click Duplicate to copy an existing Threshold condition. Click Delete to delete the existing Threshold condition

    The Threshold Condition Editor appears.

  5. Complete Step 1 in the Threshold Condition Editor. This step shows the properties of the selected object class and allows you to select the properties for which you want to set the threshold. This further narrows the managed objects that pass the Threshold condition.

Select the check box of the desired property or properties of the object class. As you select each check box, the property is added to the box in Step 2.

  6. Complete Step 2 in the Threshold Condition Editor. This step allows you to enter the expressions used to test each managed object. Each expression is essentially a rule you specify for setting threshold. You can create the rules using regular expressions or plain text, along with a comparison operator.

Click the link next to the property () to specify the expression for setting the threshold on this property.

    The Property Filter Editor appears.

  7. Make your desired changes.

    • For numeric parameters (all MCP and most OS 2200 parameters)

    1. Choose the comparison operator from the drop-down list., either =, <, >, <=, =>, or <>

    2. Enter a numeric value in the fill-in field. If you enter a non-numeric character, an error message is displayed. However, you can enter a minus sign (-) as the first character in the fill-in field.

    • For string parameters (only applies to the OS 2200 Hold parameter)

    1. Choose the comparison operator from the drop-down list: either = or <>.

    2. Enter one or more of the following holds: A, D, E, I, L, M, O, R, or T. You do not need to enter a space or a comma in between each entry. See OS 2200 Threshold Properties for a description of each of these holds.

    • For true and false parameters (a few OS 2200 parameters), select True or False from the drop-down list.

  8. Click OK to close the Property Filter Editor.

  9. Repeat Steps 5 and 6 to enter multiple threshold conditions.

  10. Click OK to close the Threshold Condition Editor.

  11. In the Condition window, enable or disable the filter conditions by selecting or clearing the check box next to the desired threshold condition. A check mark means the filter is enabled.

  12. Click OK to close the Condition window, or New to create additional threshold conditions.

You can view the threshold conditions you specified in the Condition property, which appears in the form of Boolean expressions.

  13. Save your changes.
