Note: If you need help choosing or configuring a modem, which is a prerequisite to defining a modem template, see the Operations Sentinel Administration and Configuration Guide. This Help document assumes you already have your external devices installed and configured.
A modem template controls a device that is accessible through a modem, such as a pager.
You define a modem template by using the details pane. The minimum information you must specify for a modem template to be usable is the Service Name and Dialing String properties.
The following guidelines apply when you define a modem template:
The modem must be Hayes-compatible and support Hayes commands and response codes.
The modem must work independently of Operations Sentinel.
The modem must have command echo enabled.
Operations Sentinel sends the Hayes modem command ATV before it sends the initialization string. This conditions the modem to return short response codes (ASCII representations of numeric codes). Do not specify a modem command in the Initialization or Dialing String properties that sets the modem back to ASCII representation.
A carriage return (decimal code 13) must be configured as the command termination character.
When making a connection to another modem (such as a modem at a paging service), the intermediate negotiation statuses must start at decimal value 40 or lower. If they do not, you must disable negotiation statuses by sending an appropriate initialization string to the modem. For the appropriate string to use, consult your modem documentation.
Tip: You can make the same change to multiple modem templates at one time by selecting all the desired templates in the display pane. The common properties for the selected modem templates are displayed in the details pane. Make the desired change and it is applied to all selected templates.
