Action Properties

The following table describes the properties displayed in the details pane for an action. Use this table to help you interpret and enter data in the details pane.

Property

Definition

Action Event

Indicates the type of event that triggers the action, which can be

  • Raise

The action is executed when an alert is raised, or when its severity escalates or deescalates.

  • Acknowledge

The action is executed when an alert is acknowledged.

  • Clear

The action is executed when an alert is cleared.

The default value is Raise.

Use the arrow () in the Action Event property to select Raise, Acknowledge, or Clear.

Delay

Indicates the number of minutes or seconds to delay after an event is triggered before the action is invoked. This value depends upon which unit of time you select for the Delay Unit property (either minutes or seconds).

The default value is 0.

Delay Unit

Indicates the time unit for delay, which can be minutes or seconds. The default value is minutes.

Use the arrow () in the Delay Unit property to select either Minutes or Seconds. If the value of the Delay property is 0, the Delay Unit property is ignored.

Enabled

Controls whether the action is executed when the triggering event occurs. Use the arrow () in the Enabled property to select either True or False. If you set the value to False, the action is ignored.

The default value is True.

See Enabling or Disabling an Action for more information.

Template

Indicates the template used to execute the action.

When you add a new action, the Template property is empty. Use the arrow () in the Template property to select the desired template. All templates defined in the alert policy are available for selection. If you do not select a template, the action is ignored.

Once you have selected a template, you can also edit the property values of the template in this property pane. Click the plus sign (+) that appears to the left of the word Template in the property pane. The property pane expands to show all properties defined for the template and you can make your desired changes here.

Note: Any change you make to a template affects all actions that refer to that template in the same alert policy, not just the action from which you made the change.

Text

Provides the action text. This value can be any sequence of characters, including printable characters, control characters, and substitution of attribute values from alert event reports. See About Action Text Property for suggestions on how to use this property and allowable control characters and substitution sequences.

See Text Property Examples for examples of values you can enter for this property.
