Creating Resource Monitor Policies

You can create a new resource monitor policy using one of the following methods:

To create a new policy

  1. In the navigation pane, under the Resource Monitor Policies node, select the resource monitor policy type, either Windows or UNIX/Linux.

  2. On the File menu, click New Policy. The new policy is added to the resource monitor policy type and appears in the display pane.

  3. As needed, add or copy resources to a resource group.

  4. As needed, modify the properties of the resources you add.

  5. Save your changes. (At any time you can discard your changes to restore the data to the last saved version.)

To copy an existing policy

  1. In the navigation pane, under the Resource Monitor Policies node, select the resource monitor policy type, either Windows or UNIX/Linux.

  2. In the display pane, select the resource monitor policy you want to copy and click Copy on the Edit menu.

  3. Select the resource monitor policy type where you want to paste the policy and click Paste on the Edit menu. If you paste the policy within the same Operations Sentinel server,  ‘copy of’ precedes the name of the new policy.  You can also paste the policy to a different Operations Sentinel server (a different instance of Operations Sentinel Console).

  4. As needed, add or copy resources to a resource group.

  5. As needed, modify the properties of the resources you add.

  6. Save your changes. (At any time you can discard your changes to restore the data to the last saved version.)

To add a resource to a resource group

To add a resource to a resource group, in the navigation pane, select the resource group node and click New Resource on the File menu.

You can also copy and paste a resource. The procedure is similar to copying and pasting a policy.

To modify the properties of a resource

You can modify the properties of a resource when you create a new policy or anytime thereafter. To modify the properties of a resource, do the following:

  1. In the navigation pane, select the resource group node that contains the resource whose properties you want to modify.

  2. In the display pane, select the resource. The details pane contains the properties for that resource.

  3. In the details pane, select the property you want to modify and enter or select the value for that property. See the Description Help for an explanation of each property.

Notes:

  • Operations Sentinel does not restrict naming or renaming a policy, even if the policy is associated with a managed system.

  • Saving a policy does not distribute the policy to monitored systems.  You must explicitly distribute the policy to send the saved data to monitored system for execution.

  • If you exit Operations Sentinel Console with unsaved resource policy data, Operations Sentinel Console displays a prompt asking if you want to save the unsaved data.  If you save the data, all instances of Operations Sentinel Console that are connected to the operation server are updated with the saved configuration data.
