Steps to Create and Define a Managed Object

Complete the following steps to create and define a new managed object:

  1. Expand the Managed Objects node in Administration mode to display the available object classes.

  2. Click the desired class for the object: Arbitrary System, Component, MCP System, OS 2200 System, OS 2200 Console, Server, UNIX/Linux System, or Windows System.

  3. To create the new managed object, do one of the following:

    • Click New Object on the File menu.

    • Press Ctrl+N.

    • Right-click in a blank part of the display pane, and click New Object from the shortcut menu that appears.

    • Click the New () icon on the toolbar.

The appropriate managed object wizard appears and leads you through the process of configuring the properties of the managed object. Note: Instead of defining a managed object from scratch, you could also copy and modify an existing one. Using an existing managed object to create a new one could save you time by eliminating the need to reenter similar data twice.

  1. Enter or modify the properties of the managed object in the wizard. Click one of the following links for detailed information on configuring the properties of a specific managed object: server, arbitrary system, MCP system, OS 2200 console, OS 2200 system, UNIX or Linux system, and Windows system.

  2. Enter or modify properties in the details pane that did not appear in the wizard. These include threshold values for OS 2200 and MCP systems.

  3. Save the managed object so that it becomes available to all users and Operations Sentinel can begin monitoring it.
