Log Properties

The following table describes the properties displayed in the details pane for a log. Use this table to help you interpret and enter data in the details pane.

Specify values for these properties to control log file retention for the log.

Property Name

Definition

File Count

Indicates the actual number of log files that currently exist for the log, including the log file for the current day.

You can change this number to a smaller value, which causes Operations Sentinel to delete log files until that smaller number of files is reached. This lets you manually override the site policy for automatic file deletion (as specified by the Maximum property).

See Changing the Number of Log Files Retained for additional information.

Name

Displays the name of the log. This property is read-only.

Log Source Count

Displays the number of log sources that exist for the log. This property is read-only.

Maximum

Indicates the maximum number of days to retain log files for the log. There is one log file in each log for each day.

When the age of a log file exceeds the maximum number, the file is automatically deleted. The default maximum number of days is 90.

You can change this number to a smaller value, which causes Operations Sentinel to delete log files that are older than the new maximum.

See Changing the Maximum Number of Days to Retain Log Files for additional information.

State

Displays the overall state of the log, which can be Active, Inactive, or Error. Active means at least one log source has an active state, but none has an error state. Inactive means all log sources are inactive. Error means at least one log source has an error state. This property is read-only.

See Logging States for additional information.
